For more information on upcoming tours this year, please see below. Scot Rock walks range from evening tours which can be a few hours long depending on the locality to full 1 day tours. Longer tours will be coming soon.
Group Geology Tours
Group day tours will be available once or twice a month on either a Saturday’s or Sunday’s all year round or both. These tours contain a variety of different geological stops that last the full day. Tours are limited to 8 people (7 people including Luisa), due to mini bus restrictions. Please note that if less than 4 people book onto the tour then it may be subject to cancellation. The Geology of the Scottish Highlands Group tour (1 day)
Picking up/dropping off from Glasgow City Centre, leave at 8am. This will include learning about the following:
The Metasedimentary rocks of The Dalradian supergroup
The Gramphian Highland Terrane
Glencoe and Ben Nevis’s Extinct Volcano - Learn about how Magmas form and evolve and lavas erupt at the earths structure
The glacial features in the landscape that formed during the quaternary period (from now up to 2.6 million years ago)
A visit to Treasure’s of the Earth Museum (fee included in tour price)
The Great Glen Fault

The Geology of the Isle of Skye Group tour (1 day)
Picking up/dropping off from Portree on the Isle of Skye leave at 8am and will include visiting the following places:
Discover the Volcanic Centre, active 65 million years ago, that once fed the isle of Skye Volcano - The black (Gabbro) and the red (Granite) Cullen mountains
The lavas and magmas in and around the Fairy Pools - Includes walk down to the fairy pools
(4.2km walk - medium)Elgol Limestone and sedimentary features
Lean how the Old Man of Storr formed (an ancient landslide of volcanic and sedimentary rocks)
Basaltic Columns at Kilt Rock - How do basaltic columns form in Lava and Magma?
The Dinosaur Footprints at Staffin Bay and limestone that represent an old marine environment from the Jurassic period - When dinosaurs ‘ruled’ Scotland
See fossils in the Jurassic Rocks

The Geology of Western Highlands - Loch Lomond, Glencoe, Oban, Easdale slates Group tour (1 day)

The Falls of Falloch Waterfall - learn how waterfalls form
Glencoe’s volcano - learn about the magmas and how the evolve and the mountain building that once happened in Scotland
Oban and surrounding area - the old red sandstone group and the Dalradian supergroup
The Easdale slates - Check out the pyrite (fools gold) found in these metasedimentary rocks that were once deposited on the oceanic floor
The glacial processes that cut the landscape as we know it today

The Geology of the Isle of Arran Group Tour (1 day)
Picking up/dropping off from Glasgow City Centre, leave at 6am and will include visiting the following places:
Travel to Ardrossan to get Ferry (1 hour) (ferry ticket included in price)
Discover the New red sandstone, deposied during the permian period when scotland was covered in a desert
The sedimentary and volcaniclastic rocks of the carboniferous period
The old red sandstone deposited during the Devonian period - The sediments from the mountains that once belonged in scotland
Glen Sannox - The highland boundary fault, Dalradian Supergroup and Granitic magma chamber that makes up the mountains in Arran
