The Geology of the Isle of Skye Group tour (3 days)
Day 1 (Friday 27th June 2025)
Picking up/dropping off from Glasgow at 12:00 midday
We will drive through the beautiful Scottish highlands
Optional pick up available from Inverness available at discounted price
Day 2 and 3 (Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June 2025)
Highlights of the trip include the following:
Discover the Volcanic Centre, active 65 million years ago, that once fed the isle of Skye Volcano - The black (Gabbro) and the red (Granite) Cullins mountain range
The lavas and geological features found in and around the Fairy Pools - includes walk down to fairy pools
(4.2km walk - medium)The oldest rocks of Scotland - the Lewissian Gniess found in the clear peninsula
The Moine thrust fault that seperate the Hebridean Terrane from the north west highlands Terrane
Learn how the Old Man of Storr and Quiraing formed (an ancient landslide of volcanic and sedimentary rocks)
Basaltic Columns at Kilt Rock - How do basaltic columns form in Lava and Magma?
The Dinosaur Footprints at Staffin Bay and limestone that represent an old marine environment from the Jurassic period - When dinosaurs cut about Scotland
Visit to the dinosaur museum (if opened)
See fossils found in the Jurassic Rocks
We will stay in around Portree both nights so please ensure you book accommodation in around this area on Friday and Saturday evening.
There will be an option to join Luisa for dinner each evening.
Price per person - £330.00 From Glasgow, £295.00 from Inverness or £150.00 for a 1 day ticket from Portree. Sunday will be a half day tour as we will be travelling back down the road - there will be an option to meet us in Skye at Portree each day and purchase the Saturday full day and Sunday morning tour for £220.00.
