Pick up from available from Glasgow, or Inverness
Friday 22nd August 2025 (Day 1)
Travel up towards the North West Highlands from Glasgow, passing through Glencoe, fort William and along the Great Glen Fault towards Inverness. There will be a 2nd pick up from Inverness if this suits better. Bus leaves from Glasgow city centre at 10am.

The geology of Loch Lomond, Glencoe and Ben Nevis.
Travel from Inverness to Ullapool which is where we will be staying for this evening so please book accommodation around here. There will be the option to join Luisa for dinner for the evening.
Saturday 23rd August 2025 (Day 2)
Travel from Ullapool leaving around 9am
Knocken Crag - The Moine Thrust Fault (includes a walk up to the different localities)
Travel along Loch Assynt learning all about the Torridonian Sansdtone, Cambrian quartzites and Durness limestone groups
Achmelvich Bay - see the oldest rocks in Scotland on one of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland
Clachtoll beach - the Torridonian sandstone
The Rock Stop - The North West Highlands Geopark stop and rock museum for a wee lunch and tea and coffee break
Kylesku Bridge - granulite facies metamorphic rocks
Scourie Bay - The scourian dykes
Laxford Cutting - Scotlands most beautiful road cutting
Smoo Cave - the Durness limestone
Ceannabeinne beach - pegmatite veins running through the Lewissian Gniess
Return trip back down to Ullapool (we
Sunday 24th August 2025 (Day 3)
Corrieshalloch gorge - the deepest gorge in Scotland
The magnetic mountain at Gairloch - remember to bring a magnet with you
The unconformity between the Torridonian sandstones and Lewissian Gneiss
Travel back home down the A9 stopping at a few geological places of interest on the way down
Rock formations you’ll see:
Thee Lewissian Gniess - the oldest rocks in Scotland
The Torridonian Sandstones
The Moine supergroup
The Cambrian quartzites including the ‘pipe rock’
The Durness limestone
The Dalradian supergroup
And many more 🪨😍
